Cedar Breaks National Monument rests on top of the Colorado plateau, at over 10,000 feet in elevation. The geology displayed is the result of millions of years of sedimentation, uplift, and erosion that have left this giant amphitheater, with a width of over three miles. Mineral deposition over time, have left the cliffs of Cedar Breaks National Monument displaying an amazing rainbow of warm hues quite similar to those shown in nearby Bryce Canyon.
From early June to mid-October, the visitor center is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All visitor facilities are closed from mid-October through late May. The Cedar Breaks Scenic Drive remains open to vehicular traffic until snow and heavy drifting occur, normally anywhere from late October to early December.
Cedar breaks can be accessed from nearby Cedar City which is along I-15 or from Highway 89. Both routes will put you on Highway 14 which offers a beautiful drive through Cedar Mountain. From Jacob Lake via Highway 89 and Highway 14 it is 105 miles and the drive will take roughly 2 hours.
